NetSafe Card - Virtual Credit Card from HDFC Bank
Many times you will find that it requires a credit card to make an online transaction. If you want to make serious money from internet, you definitely need a credit card. It is difficult to get a credit card for many people. If you don’t have a credit card you can use a NetSafe card instead of a real credit card for online transactions. If you are from India, then HDFC bank has a facility called netsafe which will help you to make virtual credit cards using your debit card. All you need to do is open a bank account with HDFC bank. Then you need to register your debit card on bank website for one time, and you can generate a login id and password from the website.
The netsafe virtual credit card can be generated by logging onto the HDFC bank website and can be used at any online shopping website that accepts VISA/Mastercard. You can generate netsafe card for any amount of your choice and it is limited by your bank balance. The netsafe card will expire within 24 hours after it is created and netsfe card can be used for a single transaction only. You can use netsafe cards for paying amounts in any currency by converting the foreign currency amount to indian rupees using sites like xe.com. If you are going to use it on sites that are charging the amount in US dollar, convert the dollar amount to rupees using the current exchange rate and use slightly higher amount than the calculated amount. If the netsafe card limit you created is lower than the amount required for the transaction, the transaction will not be done. That is the reason why you should create the card for a slightly higher amount. You will be charged only the actual amount. Any unused amount from the netsafe card will be credited back to your credit/debit card account. The risk exposure on the netsafe card is limited to your self-chosen limit.
I am using netsafe card for online transactions for more than one year. I have used it for paying my broadband bill, domain registration, and on very popular websites like eBay, ClickBank and everywhere that need a credit card. I have also used netsafe card for verifying paypal account. To verify paypal generate a netsafe card for Rs 100 and add it to paypal. To get the paypal verification code, login to netsafe and go to go to the “All Accounts/Services ” . After that click on “TXN Details”. The transaction description will be shown like ” 1723PAYPAL - - *EXPUSE 4585962536 “. The numbers will be different for each transaction. The first four digits before payapl is the paypal verification code.
The disadvantage of the nesafe card is you can’t use for recurring transactions like monthly subscription. However you can pay the amount for a monthly subscription in advance such as 6 months payment in a single transaction.

How can I use HDFC bank net safe card to verify paypal account. Beacuse once you give your netsafe card details in paypal then paypal deduct $1.95 USD from your card and ask you to enter the 4 digit verification code to verify the transaction. How to get that verification code with netsafe card.
Dear Harikrishna, I have verified my paypal account using netsafe card. For verifying paypal account create a netsafe card for 100 rupees ( around $1.95 ) and use the created card number. To get the paypal verification code, login to netsafe and go to go to the “Accounts/Services” . After that click on “TXN Details”. There you will find the 4 digit code.
Dear Rajiv, You can’t withdraw money to a netsafe card. Why withdraw money to a credit card when you can withdraw it directly to your bank account. It is FREE for amounts over 7,000.

Dear Vanraj, The amount of money you used for creating netsafe card is debited from your bank account and the amount is limited by your bank balance. If you don’t use the netsafe card after creation it will be credited back to your bank account.

I don’t have credit card.but I verified my paypal using netsafe. My account is verified. After 24 hours I didn’t get 100 rupees in my paypal account. Can u say my account is verified and I cannot see my credit in paypal.

Dear shanavas, Thank you first…I now verified my paypal using VCC netsafe card of HDFC…. I have a problem.. Now my account have around $1.95 and I need to purchase some products that cost me around $15 from ebay.

Dear Mohan, You can’t use netsafe card to fund paypal account. Paypal needs to verify every card you add in your paypal account. You can use

1)When creating a netsafe VCC, can I change the name and address for the VCC or will it only be the name and address used when applying for a HDFC bank account(I dont have a HDFC account and think of purchasing a netsafe VCC in my name for paypal verification if anyone would offer)

The only thing important for a credit card transaction to be successful are credit card number, card expiry date and card verification number ( CVV). You can give any name and it will be OK. There are is no website in India that would provide ATM debit card without having a bank account.

Dear Anand, This happens because you have created a less value netsafe card. Create a netsafe card that is slightly higher than the amount required because we don’t know the exact exchange rate HDFC bank is charging. You will only charged the actual amount.

Dear haris, I have mentioned to create a netsafe card slightly higher than the actual amount for foreign currency transaction. The netsafe card amount will be automatically refunded to your account automatically if you don’t use the netsafe card. If you find anything unusual you may contact the HDFC bank customer care.

Dear Navneet, The netsafe card can be used to buy items in dollar. Please note that debit cards can’t be used online and will not work.

Regarding Forex,
1) are we allowed to trade forex, legally as per govt rules ?
2) is the way like funding etoro with credit card and withdrawing profits to it legal? I mean wont it violate some money exchange rules etc?
3) In using virtual netsafe card for verifying paypal, u said,, we can use it. fine.
Since a virtual cc will work for 24 hours only, if a 100rs (1.95$) card is made, paypal will first take the money…But do u think it will be able to return that money into that virtual card…i dont think so.
I think, it can have fixed amount for use only and not for remittance…and there fore we may loose the money.
Kindly clear these doubts pointwise.

Dear Amit, Forex trading is 100% legal in India in every way. A netsafe card can be used for verifying paypal and not for funding account. You will never loose money with netsafe as any unused amount will return to the account.
Hello Mr. Shanavas, I seen your comments regarding HDFC Net Safe card and I have opened an account with HDFC Bank and also registered for Netsafe card and credited amount to it for verifying with paypal but while adding the card with paypal it has been rejected by the paypal and stated that your card issued Bank has denied the card. In this instant stage please help me what step is required to be taken by me please.

The situation here is u have used 1.95$ from your netsafe card when paypal withdraws, thats thus netsafe card is used. now I dont think that 1.95$ can be returbed to it as its a netsafe card & not normal credit card… just think about it.
2) Regarding my point query no 2, u didnt answer. will be waiting for next time, if its completely legal as u said.

Very interesting site you have here! I also have a question for you. If I get this NetSafe Card, after opening an account in at HDFC bank, can I use the NetSafe (Virtual) Card to make purchases at Amazon? I am asking this because apparently (so I have been told by Amazon) that they don’t honour Indian Visa debit cards. I find this strange because I have use UK-bank issued Visa debit cards before with Amazon.
Please do let me know if you or anyone that you know personally has tried to make purchases at Amazon using the NetSafe Card successfully.

Dear Manav, Indian debit cards can’t be used online. Netsafe card is a virtual credit card and you can use it anywhere including amazon.

Assuming that you are familiar with Amazon, you will notice that one has to fill out two sets of addresses - one is the shipping address (where your books or whatever you buy will be shipped) and the second is the billing address (the address for your credit card).
Should I assume that the billing address (when ordering from Amazon using the NetSafe Card from HDFC) will be the same address as that for the Debit card from HDFC?

If I have to Purchase a product online which uses PayPal as a payment method, Could I be able to purchase that product using Netsafe card. If yes! then I am using a verified Premier PayPal account. So If I pay myself Like buying a product then I can Get my PayPal account funded.
Will it work? Since we can’t Fund PayPal Directly… we can pay ourself and lose some transaction charges and get funded.

1. Supposing I have already confirmed my Paypal account using a Netsafe card & now my Paypal account has a credit of $1.95.
2. Now I wish to purchase something worth $50 from a website which is dealextreme.com who ONLY accept payment via Paypal & DO NOT accept credit card payment.
So how do I make this purchase using a newly generated Netsafe card worth slightly above $50. If you explain the ‘gateway’ concept I would be really grateful. I can then make the purchase right away. Thanks.
Dear Basu, This is not a straight forward way. You need a premier or business account and after login in to paypal account select merchant services and you will see the option. Please note that there will be a charge for the transaction.

Dear Pooja, You can’t fund paypal using netsafe and you can’t purchase the product that way. Either you need a real credit card or paypal balance to purchase the product.
You don’t need an introducer for opening HDFC bank account.
I have read about the HDFC NetSafe Card. Its very interesting. I would like to know except HDFC banks no other banks offer NetSafe Card? like ICICI Banks, AxiS banks? Because in our area still no HDFC bank. How many days required after after applying for Netsafe card from HDFC bank? This Netsafe card is only for one use? After using it shall I throw away? Kindly write in some details and I am very interested since I have also no credit card.

Dear Benjo, Kotak Mahindra Bank has a similar facility. Netsafe card is a virtual card and there is no real credit card.
